Visa and Entry Requirements for East Africa

Most visitors require a visa for entry into Uganda and Rwanda. The East African Tourist Visa (EATV) is highly recommended as it covers Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya. Please check the latest requirements with your local embassy well in advance of your travel date. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date.

Tipping and Local Etiquette

Tipping is customary and a significant part of the income for guides, drivers, and lodge staff. We provide a suggested tipping guideline in your final itinerary. Always ask permission before taking photographs of local people, and respect local customs and traditions. Learning a few words of the local language (e.g., ‘Muzungu’ is a common term for a white person) is appreciated.

Health (Vaccinations)

A  Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry into Uganda and Rwanda. Malaria is present in many areas; consult your doctor about appropriate prophylaxis. We also recommend routine vaccinations (Tetanus, Hepatitis A & B). Always carry personal medication and a basic first-aid kit.

Packing Items

Pack light, comfortable clothing in  neutral colors  (khaki, brown, green) for safaris. Layers are key due to temperature fluctuations. Bring a wide-brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen, quality insect repellent, and a waterproof jacket. We advise using soft-sided luggage  as hard cases are difficult to fit in safari vehicles and light aircraft.

Safari FAQ for East Africa

The best time is generally during the dry seasons (June to October and January to February). Wildlife is easier to spot as animals congregate around water sources, and the weather is sunny. However, the 'green season' offers lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and lower prices.

We use custom-built 4x4 Land Cruisers or Land Rovers. They feature pop-up roofs for optimal game viewing and photography, comfortable seating, a fridge for cold drinks, and charging points for your devices.

Yes, it is very safe. We only work with trusted partners and lodges in secure areas. Your safety is our top priority. Our guides are highly trained in first aid and defensive driving. We advise guests to follow all guide instructions and exercise standard caution in urban areas.

Internal flights often have a strict luggage limit of **15-20 kg (33-44 lbs)** per person, including hand luggage, and require soft-sided bags. This is crucial for light aircraft safety and storage. Hard-shell suitcases are not permitted.

Connectivity is generally good in major cities and most permanent lodges. However, many remote camps intentionally limit Wi-Fi to encourage a digital detox. Phone signal can be intermittent in national parks. We recommend purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival for better coverage.
