Nyugwe national park is located In south western Rwanda, it consists of over 400 square miles, Ngugwe forest national park is home to exotic Flora and faun with over 250 species, 140 wild locusts and many species, Nyugwe national park is the Africa’s largest protected rain forest and its home of the man’s closest relatives in Rwanda
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Nyugwe forest national park
Wake up with early morning breakfast at your hotel or place of accommodation in city and meet your guide for briefing, later you will be transferred for brief Kigali city tour having chance to visit Genocide memorial, city central market and former presidential palace and then continue with journey to nyugwe national park with en-route lunch stop among the historical sites to visit along the way later proceed with journey to the park and check in for evening canopy walk
The amazing canopy walk takes you across a hanging platform which crosses over the tall and majestic trees of Nyungwe. The hanging platform is built 74 meters above the ground and is 160 meters long. You will have an aerial view of the forest enabling you to spot birds and more of the primates feeding on top of the trees or jumping from one tree to another.
Day 2: chimpanzee trekking in the morning and afternoon colubus monkey trekking
Wake up early morning with heavy breakfast prepared for long day and activity, Rwanda chimpanzee trekking starts early morning compared to Uganda in kibale national park. You will drive will pick you 5:45am for briefing at Uwinka, thier are two trails for chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest – The Uwinka and Cyamudongo trail. After the briefing, the ranger guides will assign you one of the trails depending on the number of participants. Each group will be driven to the starting point of the trek
You will spend hours learning behaviors of chimpanzee human’s closest relatives and also more other primate species with birds and other mammals
You will return to the lodge for lunch and afternoon track Angola Colobus in Gisakura. Tracking Colobus monkeys takes a far shorter time than following any of the trails or chimpanzee trekking because they live at the edge of the forest.
You will later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight
Day3: transfer back to Kigali and en-route visit the tea factory in gisakura
Wake up early for breakfast as you meet your safari driver guide. The driver will take you to Gisakura Tea Estate for a tour of the farm and factory. While at the tea estate, you will learn how tea is grown, processed and packed at the factory. You will then continue the long journey to Kigali. The driver will make stops to any of the places you didn’t check out on the first day. The final destination is either the airport, your hotel or accommodation in Kigali.
